MALDON’S old police station is now on the market with property consultants Kemsley LLP selling the building for more than £700,000.

The police station on West Square in the town closed on July 31, with the force’s new base opening at the district council offices on Princes Road.

The Standard reported in September that a Freedom of Information request revealed that the value of the station, which was fully owned by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, exceeded more than £400,000.

However, Kemsley have priced the building at £700,000 or more, and have welcomed conditional and unconditional offers on the building.

Essex Police previously claimed the funds freed up from the move, and those generated from the sale, will go into helping police establish a more visible presence in the district.

The building consists of individual rooms with offices, front counter area, interview rooms, locker areas and stores.

Kemsley have stated the building could suit redevelopment as residential space, but potential buyers should make their own enquiries with Maldon District Council.
