Members of the Autumn Leaves Club met in the village hall on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 25. Unfortunately several people were unable to attend, either because of illness or being on holiday.
Hanny Kyan was welcomed as a new member.
We were informed that Edna was going into hospital and that Madeleine had had yet another fall whilst attending Broomfield Hospital. The Rev Jo Dudley gave a very interesting talk on her life in the police force, and then recently being ordained into the priesthood, which had enabled her to spend time in India doing her training. There were some very interesting photographs, and lovely Indian silk, which were displayed. Rachael gave a note of thanks.
The bring-and-buy stall was full of bargains and was very busy throughout the afternoon.
Jean, our outings secretary, gave us details of our next outing, when we will be visiting Mendlesham on August 8, leaving Kelvedon at 10.30am. Also, on August 22, we shall be going out to Mersea for afternoon tea. This outing is instead of our usual meeting in the village hall during August.
Margaret Arrowsmith won the "red"
competition with her vase, and the next time we meet up in the hall, the competition will be for an item being in the colour "green".
There was a large raffle with 16 members being lucky enough to take home a prize. The meeting was then closed after a welcome cup of tea.
AID 2 AFRICA
On Monday, July 16, a further container was loaded and sent on its way to Lesotho. This container was loaded with bags of clothes and toys, suitcases full of shoes and handbags, and boxes upon boxes of bedding and various kitchen utensils, cups and plates.
All these items are still urgently needed on an ongoing basis, and your kind donations should be left at 13 Barnhall Road at any time, or take them along to the village hall any Wednesday evening between 7pm and 8pm. If you have a large amount of donations, you can telephone John Scott on 01621 817796 to arrange collection.
QUIZ NITE
Don't forget to make a note in your diaries of the next quiz night being organised by the Village Hall Committee.
So keep Saturday August 18, free.
The quiz will start from 7.30pm onwards. You are invited to take along your own refreshments.
GARDEN WASTE
Dispose of your garden waste every Saturday, either from Knights Close between 9.45am and 9.55am, or from the village hall car park from 10am to 10.15am.
BINGO
Come along to the village hall every Wednesday evening and enjoy a game of Bingo. There are always plenty of good cash prizes available.
