The winner of the English Cup for the highest number of points in the cookery section was Sarah Emerson.

The winner of the Cookery Runner-Up Cup was Carole Bain.

SUNDAY SERVICES

The summer programme of services at the Chapel of St Peter on the Wall in Bradwell continues this Sunday with a service praising God with After the Fire and Friends, beginning at 6.30pm.

PARISH BARBECUE

This annual event in aid of funds for St Nicholas church, Tillingham and St James' church, Dengie, will be held on August 18 at 6pm in the garden of 6 Vicarage Lane by kind invitation of Zanny and Roger Lawrence.

DENGIE HUNDRED EXHIBITION

The exhibition about the Dengie Hundred at St Lawrence Rural Discovery church is on show until the end of August on Saturdays and Sundays from 2.30pm until 4.30pm.

Michael Head has over 300 prints from his archive collection which include a section of pictures of Tillingham.

Michael has devoted years to collecting up postcards from all over the country that relate to this part of the world, and the exhibition will be of great interest to both new and old residents.

DENGIE NETBALL CLUB

This club, set up in 1997 for girls in the Dengie area who wanted to play netball, now trains at the Prom in Maldon on a Tuesday evening, juniors from 6pm to 7pm and senior school girls from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Teams take part in league matches, the coaches have reached All England standards at levels 2 and 3 and qualified first aiders are in attendance.

There are spaces for players next season in all age groups, and anyone who would like to join should call Sue on 01261 779672.

She would also like to hear from any volunteers who would like to get into coaching or umpiring, or even people who could help with the usual administrative jobs connected with the netball club.

MEMORIES OF THE DENGIE HUNDRED

The towns and villages of the Dengie Hundred are depicted in old postcards at the Rural Discovery Church, St Lawrence, (at the top of the hill!) on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 2.30pm to 4pm. There is a small entry fee and light refreshments are available.

BRIDGE

Our results in August have been as follows. The Friday August 3 game was won by Barbara Elias and Wendy Ledwith. The best slam bid was 6 no trumps by Valerie Baron and Lionel Thacker. On Monday August 6, our monthly prize game was won by Helen & Gavin Rouse. In sercond were Joyce Yates and Jenny Smith, and in third Valerie Baron and Lionel Thacker. On Friday August 10 we had winners Len Wright and Valerie Baron. No slams were bid. Finelly, the Monday August 13 game was won by Jim Cousins and Barbara Partridge. Only one slam was bid, by Barbara and Dennis Thurlow - six diamonds.
