MALDON’S In Bloom team has thanked volunteers as they await the outcome of a prestigious competition.
Back in July, Anglia in Bloom judges were taken on a three hour tour of the town’s floral credentials.
There were visits to the Plume Academy, All Saints Church, the Friary Walled garden, Promenade Park and the wildflower area in Longfields.
The team now face a nervous wait to find out the results of this year’s competition - with the awards ceremony taking place on September 12.
Dorreen Linton, of Maldon in Bloom, said the soaring temperatures had made it a testing year.
She said: “The judges commented on our wonderful hanging baskets and the great community spirit shown by everyone.
“The Maldon in Bloom team would like to thank everyone who gave their support this year.
“It was a particular difficult year for the twelve volunteers due to the hot and dry conditions. However, the lack of water did not seem to stop the weeds growing.”
Last year Maldon retained its Anglia in Bloom gold award for a third year running.
In 2015 the town was awarded its first gold since 2006 after eight years of collecting silver gilt awards.
Mrs Linton added: “This is a big commitment for a very small group of volunteers to undertake so that Maldon can be represented along with the many other towns that enter the Anglia in Bloom campaign.”
She also thanked Maldon Town Council and Maldon District Council for their help.
Four members of Maldon in Bloom will travel to Bury St Edmunds next month to hear the results.
