A WOMAN claims she is being forced out of her home after her landlords gave her two months’ notice to leave – despite being told her tenancy was safe.
The tenant, of Glebe Way, Burnham, who asked not to be named, had been renting her home from Strutt and Parker Farms.
She claims tenants were told they would be “safe” after the business was sold in 2019.
But now the company is telling some tenants they will have to move out.
She said: “Strutt and Parker Farms are making lots of people homeless.
“Despite telling tenants they would be safe after the business was sold, we are now being told we have two months to get out.
“We were told a week ago.
“We still have nothing on paper so can’t get help from the council, but the council are also telling us there is nothing around here and the only places available are in Ipswich and Suffolk.”
She added: “The majority of us have children at schools locally, family locally or work locally, and we are losing our homes and potentially our support network and jobs.
“They are selling a whole list of properties, leaving families homeless during the housing crisis we keep hearing about.
“They own a lot of property in Burnham.
“There are at least four houses down my road all being sold.
“Three of us have young children. We risk losing jobs, disruption to our children’s education and being homeless.”
A spokesman for Strutt and Parker Farms said: “Following the sale of Strutt and Parker Farms in 2019 and a subsequent review of its residential portfolio, it was recently decided that only a small selection of those properties situated away from the main farm holdings, would be sold.
“The relevant tenants have now all been informed in accordance with their tenancy agreement.”
