A FUNFAIR had a right royal visit when Maldon's carnival princesses dropped in for a ride or two.
Amy Godden, Grace Digby and Mia and Anya Downs were VIP guests at the famous Carters Steam Fair in Promenade Park.
The thrill-seekers were all smiles as they enjoyed classic fairground rides.
A carnival court spokesman said: "This was the first time the court has managed to meet up and have some fun since last February.
"Normally the carnival court would be out most weekends visiting other carnivals around Essex, attending local functions, and visiting care homes.
"However, this has not been possible due to the current pandemic."
The carnival court is set to be officially crowned on August 11, after last year’s crowning ceremony was postponed.
The spokesman said: "Unfortunately, the committee made the sad decision not to have a carnival procession this year due to the uncertainty of the pandemic.
"We felt that even if the restrictions are lifted there wouldn’t be time for people or groups to prepare floats.
"There is good news, however – we are organising a summer carnival party on August 28 at Heybridge."
"Radio presenter Martin Day' will be starting the day off followed by local bands and singers."
There will also be rides, stalls and inflatables.
The events that normally happen in Carnival week will be spread out over August.
These events include a spot the stranger competition, car treasure hunt, teddy bears' picnic, children’s fun time, and bingo.
