A GARDEN party in Maldon raised more than £1,000 for two good causes.
Maldon Wycke Women's Institute (WI) members organised a mini fete and afternoon tea charity event, on Saturday, August 21.
It was held in one of the members' beautiful garden.
Nicky Martin, Maldon Wycke WI member, said: "Despite the Great British weather trying its best to spoil our fun, we overcame - four gazebos were swiftly put up and umbrellas became part of the 'to bring' list."
Businesses in the area donated prizes for a great raffle.
There was also a tombola, a bring and buy stall, and various fete guessing games – such as guess the weight of the cake, guess how many sweets in a jar, and many more.
Winners of these games were awarded handmade craft items.
During the afternoon members enjoyed a tea before the prize giving, raffle draw and final tally was announced.
After gift aid, Breast Cancer Now and Marie Curie received £540.63p each from Maldon Wycke WI.
Nicky said: "These charities were chosen due to one of our members battling breast cancer over the pandemic and we had a speaker talk to us over zoom at a WI meeting from Marie Curie.
"A huge well done and thank you to the committee members for organising and for members and friends for their very kind donations.
"We now look forward to our first official WI meeting back at our venue, face to face in September."
