PLANS to transform a former travel agents into a boutique cocktail bar in Maldon high street have been approved.

Ginny’s Bar will be situated at 70B High Street where the former Tui travel agents used to be.

The bar will be spread over two floors, with an open plan bar area on the ground floor and another bar area upstairs with a view of the high street.

Misha and Olivia Rosenthall plan to use the first floor area as a space for parties, events, and cocktail-making classes.

They also hope to stage live jazz evenings on set days of each month, along with a live pianist once a month.

Planning documents state the venue would be open Wednesday to Sunday each week and create 8 jobs - five part-time and three full-time staff.

The applicants also said they are passionate about work-based learning and hope to offer several hospitality apprenticeships.

The application added: “Some suppliers the applicants hope to include are The Essex Spirits Co, Crouch Vineyards, New Hall Vineyards, Wibblers Brewery, Maldon Sea Salt, and The Only Way is Gin, along with local fruit suppliers.

“The applicant is passionate about the Maldon District and hopes to help smaller niche brands and distributors gain more local exposure.”

The bar intends to build as much of Maldon’s history into the brand as possible, with a menu of cocktails including the Maldon Mule and the Blackwater Bramble.
