AN avid supporter of a mid Essex hospice has won a maximum lottery rollover prize of £25,000.
The winner of the draw last month, David, from the Braintree area, was playing in aid of the much-loved Farleigh Hospice.
The charity provides care and support for those affected by life-limiting illnesses or bereavement in mid Essex.
David has played the Local Hospice Lottery for 10 years.
His win was the maximum amount possible on a weekly rollover draw.
David and his wife visited Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford on Friday, August 27 for the official cheque handover.
He said: “I like to support local charities and I hope that my small contribution helps the bigger picture, helping Farleigh Hospice to support people that are in greater need than myself.
"In terms of what we plan to do with the money, we have decided that we will give some money to Farleigh Hospice and will also give some to the other charities I support, Muscular Dystrophy UK, Diabetes UK and the Royal British Legion.
"The money will also go towards some home improvements, in particular, adapting part of our garden to make it more easily accessible for my wife’s wheelchair.”

Pauline Harvey-Jones, commercial director at Farleigh Hospice said: “We are thrilled for David and his wife and wish them many congratulations.
"What a wonderful piece of news that must of have been, especially after the difficult 18 months we’ve all had.
"We are so grateful to David for playing in support of Farleigh for the last 10 years.
"We really appreciate the support we receive from people playing the Local Hospice Lottery in aid of Farleigh Hospice.
"The money we receive provides vital funding that goes towards our running costs, providing a regular stream of income which makes it possible for us to plan and develop our services for the future.”
Farleigh Hospice relies on the support of the community to help raise the £16,500 needed every day to continue to support the mid Essex community in their time of need.
Farleigh is one of a number of hospices nationwide supported by the Local Hospice Lottery, who donates between 50 per cent and 80 per cent of profits from individuals playing in support of Farleigh to the hospice.
It costs £1 per week to play and rollover prizes can be as high as the £25,000 won by David in August.
