THE MP for Maldon has reacted in shock to the news that fellow Tory MP and "great friend" Sir David Amess has died after being stabbed.
Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West, was stabbed "several times" in a major incident at his constituency surgery in Leigh.
He was holding the surgery at the Belfairs Methodist Church, in Eastwood Road North when a man reportedly ran into and attacked him.
It has been confirmed that a murder investigation has been launched as Sir David died despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Mr Whittingdale said: "David Amess was a great friend and a brilliant MP for nearly 40 years.
"His death is truly shocking and a huge loss to his constituents and to Parliament.
"At this time all our thoughts are with his family"
