YOUNGSTERS who took part in a London mini marathon have raised more than £1,000 for charity.

The week before half-term pupils at Southminster Primary School - who benefit from an outside area with 0.2 miles to run around - took part in the London mini-marathon.

During PE sessions the children completed at least 10 laps and some children were pleased to run even more in their own time.

A spokesman from the school said: "It was brilliant to see competitive children giving it their all."

In a heartwarming show of support children went over to their peers to encourage them when they were getting tired.

On Friday (October 29) parents were invited to support their dedicated children as they completed the final 3 laps.

The runners involved were pleasantly surprised when other parents were cheering them on too.

Mr Bragg, Southminster Primary School headteacher, also got involved - and the youngsters ran 2.6 miles in total.

The school organised this to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) - sadly some of its pupils and families have needed GOSH services.

After completing this feat the pupils have raised £1,083.99 for seriously ill children.
