A VIDEO has been released which appears to show an altercation between a councillor and a council leader’s husband.

Heybridge Parish Council chairman Richard Perry posted a video on his social media page which appears to show an altercation between the Maldon District Council leader Wendy Stamp’s husband Barry and Heybridge West Independent councillor Chrisy Morris.

Essex Police confirmed officers were called to a disturbance at a premises in Maldon Road, Langford, on Saturday at around 11.30am.

Both Mr and Mrs Stamp said they could not comment on the matter due to the ongoing police investigation.

However, Mr Perry confirmed an incident had taken place.

He claims he was the target of an “attack” although the alleged altercation happened between Mr Morris, who was at his house, and Mr Stamp.

He said: “Barry Stamp came to my home and barged his way in to attack.”

Mr Perry claims Mr Stamp was “removed” from the premises and taken away in a police car.

He added: “I have 21 quality CCTV cameras at my place and I will be releasing the footage after the police have dealt with the Stamp family.”

In the video he posted, Mr Stamp appears to confront Mr Morris outside the Mill House Hotel.

The pair then seemingly get into a physical altercation.

Later in the footage Mr Stamp appears to have a black eye.

It comes after Maldon District Council’s meeting on Thursday was abandoned early when Mr Morris was repeatedly shouting “point of order” and using a megaphone.

The council discussed sanctions against Mr Morris who denies disclosing confidential information.

Councillors voted to remove Mr Morris from the meeting but he refused to leave.

It ended when police officers were called and said Mr Morris was “breaching the peace”.

Council members went on to “rise and walk out in protest”.

No arrests were made after the incident at the council offices in Princes Road, Maldon.

Essex Police said a man was “voluntarily interviewed” after the incident on Saturday and said inquiries are ongoing.
