FORMER Colchester United promotion heroes Wayne Brown and Karl Duguid are set to go head to head, this weekend, writes JON LONGMAN.
Brown's Maldon and Tiptree side, who slipped to eighth place in Pitching In Isthmian League division north after a disappointing home defeat against Great Wakering, face an important mid-table clash at tenth-placed Coggeshall Town on Saturday (3pm).
Brown's friend and former U's team-mate Karl Duguid, along with ex-Spurs star Stuart Nethercott, are now in joint charge at West Street with a mandate to get the club back in the play-off race.
Coggeshall are eight points adrift of the play-off places and three points behind the Jammers.
Duguid will renew his friendship with Jammers manager Brown as they seek points to close the 11-point gap on Canvey.
The Jammers then face the Velocity Trophy derby clash against Heybridge at Park Drive next Tuesday (7.45pm).
Brown’s boys then look set to complete the double over struggling Romford on Saturday week, having won 8-2 at Barking on the opening game of the season.
Maldon's players and officials will see in the New Year without the worries of having their celebrations curtailed by a January 1 game at Felixstowe & Walton.
The Jammers will now make the 102-mile round trip to Dellwood Avenue two days earlier on Thursday, December 30 and the kick-off is 7.45pm.
The return bank holiday fixture at Park Drive is scheduled for Easter Monday, April 18 with a 3pm kick-off.
The Jammers still face a busy January as last Saturday’s clash with Division One North leaders Canvey Island, postponed because of the Islanders’ FA Trophy ties, has been re-arranged for Tuesday, January 11 (7.45pm).
Jammers chairman Ron Dangerfield is looking to recruit a volunteer match day public address announcer.
Interested candidates should contact the club’s media manager Richard Buckby via the club’s website.
