ESSEX fire and rescue crews helped a 21-year-old horse get back on her feet after a fall.
A shire horse named Beauty had fallen in her barn in Wick Road, Burnham yesterday (January 10).
The one tonne horse was wedged against a wall and couldn't stand, tired and shaking when Burnham firefighters arrived to help at 1.31pm.
A vet had given her some pain relief while a plan was put in place to get her back on her feet.
Chelmsford animal rescue unit was able to pack up quickly at an incident to come to Beauty's aid.
Firefighters attempted to move Beauty to give her space to stand but she was too heavy.
Tillingham firefighters were called in and 13 firefighters in total were able to flip Beauty onto her side.
After 20 minutes she was back on her feet.
The owners have since called Burnham Fire Station to let them know Beauty has recovered well.
Steve Faircloth, station manager at Burnham Fire Station, said: “My personal thanks go to the Animal Rescue Unit for their professionalism, hard work and perseverance on what had already been a very hard day for them.
“Thanks also to Sophie the vet, Tillingham Fire Station tug of war team, my own crew, and the owners who approached a very traumatic situation in a calm and helpful manner when they must have been so very worried.
"Thanks to all at the stables who ran, fetched, held gates and added encouragement. We’re glad Beauty is back on her feet and doing well.”
