A COUNCIL has announced two by-elections after councillors have stepped down.
Maldon District Council is set to conduct two by-elections.
This is following the resignations of former councillor for Wickham Bishops and Woodham, Karl Jarvis and former Maldon town councillor Peter Stilts who represented Maldon West.
Peter Stilts served as town mayor between 2012 and 2014.
The authority has said it will be starting the process to fill the vacancies after requests from electors that the seats should be filled by way of an election, rather than by co-option.
Notices of election were published on Thursday, January 20, seeking nominations for both seats.
If contested, polls will take place on February 24.
Nomination forms can be obtained by contacting elections@maldon.gov.uk or from the Electoral Commission at electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/candidate-or-agent.
Appointments should be requested and agreed in advance "to enable the informal scrutiny of nominations", prior to their formal submission.
The notice for the by-elections can both be viewed online at bit.ly/3KppfXU.
