PUBS have been a staple of the community in the Maldon district and surrounding areas for hundreds of years.
However, sadly many have been forced to close their doors to punters in recent years for a range of different reasons.
We asked the Standard readers to name a pub which no longer exists that they would have a drink in again if they could.
Here is what they said:
Mayland Mill
Many readers said they'd have a drink in the old Mayland Mill pub, where they recall having "great nights" in the early 90s.
One reader said: "Friday night in the early 90s it was packed."
The Mayland Mill was situated in Steeple Road.
This grade-II listed public house is now home to Zara Indian restaurant.

Stow Bullocks, Stow Maries
The Stow Bullocks pub in Stow Maries was fondly remembered by one of our readers alongside Mayland Mill, both of which their parents once ran.
Another pub-goer remembered this Maldon district pub on the dedicated lost pubs website, closedpubs.co.uk.
John Wernham, who took the above photo on the ClosedPubs website, said: "I have great memories of Sunday lunch times at this pub, having a good old sing-a-long with Derrick on the piano."
The Crown, Heybridge
This Maldon pub was located in Broad Street Green.
Readers recalled memories in the pub in the 80s and 90s.
One reader remembered: "Great nights in the 80’s at the disco where no one was allowed to dance.
"Then walking back home to Heybridge in the pitch dark running when a car went past so we could see in their headlights."
It was sadly demolished in 1998.
The Chequers, Maldon
The Chequers was situated at 62 in Maldon High Street.
It has since been demolished and replaced by a branch of Barclays Bank.
Rose and Crown, Southminster
The Rose & Crown was once a popular Southminster pub in 7 High Street.
It is now in residential use.
Other pubs which readers shouted out include:
- The Army and Navy, Chelmsford
- The Black Lion, Althorne
- The Swan, Tillingham
- Mitre, Wickham Bishops
- The Anchor, Heybridge
- Wagon and Horses, Latchingdon
