Photos as Essex HMVA Winter Gathering returns to Maldon

The Essex Historic Military Vehicle Association staged Sunday’s event after two years out due to Covid-19.

Formed by enthusiasts, the group has more than 100 members and aims to preserve military history, vehicles and artefacts.

The event, which has been held since the 1980s, has attracted more than 1,000 enthusiasts in recent years.

Despite a blustery start, the Winter Gathering was hailed a success, with residents turning out in force to see the classic vehicles on display.

The free event saw military vehicles of different eras and sizes turn out to wow the crowds.

Association chairman Colin Tebb said: “We couldn’t have wished for a better first event in 2022, despite the initially damp and windy weather.

Vehicles came in all shapes and sizes

“The conditions cleared up and we had a great Winter Gathering event – we saw many hundreds of people during the day and all seemed to be enthusiastic to see the vehicles and speak to the owners.

“Those who were there may also have seen some of our exhibitors break into an impromptu jumpin’ jive dance as well, which brought an energetic burst to the day.

Maldon provided a picturesque backdrop

“We’re looking forwards to our main event, Echoes of History on the 13th and 14th of August which, if the Winter Gathering is anything to go by, will be very exciting indeed with lots more to see and experience.

“Once again, we’d like to thank Maldon District Council for their generous support and permission to use Promenade Park and we hope to be back here soon.”
