MALDON council has given an update on its waste and recycling collections today as the district is hit by heavy winds.
A rare red weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Essex today.
The warning is in place between 10am and 3pm and means there is likely to be significant disruption and potential danger to life due to extremely strong winds.
Some roads will be closed and very high winds are expected in coastal areas with large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and homes.
Alll waste and recycling collections scheduled for the rest of today in the Maldon district have now been cancelled.
The district council had planned for collections to go ahead as normal but as conditions get worse and roads are disrupted it issued an update.

A spokesman said: "Please take your bins and sacks back in to a sheltered area and please put them out for collection on Monday.
"Where possible, try to protect your waste and recycling from the wind by placing it in a sheltered spot to prevent it from being blown away."
Love Essex has taken the decision to close its recycling centres which includes its Maldon and Burnham centres.
Sites are expected to reopen tomorrow.
