CHARITABLE youngsters have raised nearly £1,000 for children caught up in the conflict in Ukraine.
Cherry O’Donnell and friend Samuel Field came home from school one day and decided they wanted to do something to help people in Ukraine.
The nine-year-olds, from Tollesbury decided to host a bake sale to raise money for Save the Children’s Ukraine appeal.
Raising money for the charity appeal was completely the children’s idea, Cherry’s mum Lauren said.
The duo, their families and generous villagers made cakes and other baked goods to sell at Tollesbury Recreation Ground.

They tied their fundraising bake sale in with the platinum jubilee tree planting, held by Tollesbury Climate Partnership, to reach as many people as possible.
Lauren said: “I’m so proud. On the day I just kept saying to them ‘I’m so proud of you’.”
Cherry and Samuel raised £480 for the appeal.
The pair’s effort was matched by the company Samuel’s mum works for, Gallagher Insurance Brokers, bringing the total raised to £960.
These money will help Save the Children fund support such as access to education, winter and hygiene kits, psychological support and cash grants for families.
