A FAMILY business has installed a village’s first electric vehicle charging point.
Gibbons Engineering Group has installed the first public fast-charge point in Tollesbury.
The third-generation family business started out as an electric motor rewind and repairs workshop in 1969.
Over the years it has grown and now employs more than 30 people including office staff, mechanical engineers and electricians.
Now its launched a new business around the sales and installation of electric vehicle (EV) charge points, Plug and Drive.
A spokesman said: “With so much experience at their disposal, they wanted to move into EV charger installation and had the expertise to do so confidently.”

Its new public charge point is available for the public to use in the main car park of the Gibbons site in Woodrolfe Road.
This charger will charge most electric vehicles in under two hours, depending on the vehicle, bosses say.
The new branch is also an Ozev-approved installer, so if a business is looking at installing charge points they could qualify for a Government grant of up to £14,000 by installing with Plug and Drive.
