BURGER chain Wimpy has confirmed its commitment to Maldon just days after the town’s restaurant has closed its doors.
The Wimpy restaurant first opened in the town’s High Street in 1999 and closed its doors for the final time on Monday, May 2.
A notice on the restaurant door, circulating on social media, reads: "We plan to open again May 20 with a new name and new look to our restaurant."
It is understood the restaurant will remain under the same management, but will no longer be a Wimpy restaurant.
It is unclear what the new eatery will be.

The town's Wimpy has been removed from the chain's list of locations, but bosses say customers won't have to wait long for the brand to return to the town.
A spokesman for the much-loved brand said: “We were sorry to say farewell to the Tuncer family, who have been franchisees at the helm of Wimpy Maldon for well over 20 years, and we wish them well for the future.
“We know that we have many Wimpy fans in Maldon and we would like to reassure them that we are actively looking for a new location to make sure they don’t have too long to wait before they can enjoy their favourite burgers once again.”
