A HIGH street bank is set to close its doors as bosses say they've seen a drop in customers coming in to the branch over the past two years.

In a report published today (May 6), Barclays has revealed its Maldon branch in High Street is closing on Friday, August 5.

In it, the bank says the main reasons for it closing the Maldon branch include the change in counter transactions, other ways to do banking, the use of nearby branches and the low number of customers coming into the branch

Counter transactions have gone down in the two years to March 2020.

Additionally, 82 per cent of the branch customers use other ways to do their banking such as online and by telephone. This has increased by 13 per cent since 2015.

In the past 12 months, 41 per cent of the branch customers have been using nearby branches, with just 107 customers using this branch exclusively for their banking.

After the closure, the nearest Barclays branches will be in South Woodham Ferrers and Chelmsford.

Customers can also bank using the Barclays app, online banking, telephone banking, the Post Office and LINK cash machines.

In a second booklet, which will be available from Maldon Barclays prior to it closing or online at home.barclays/ukbranchclosures, the bank will share concerns and feedback from the community. 

It will also detail how it is helping people transition from using the branch with alternative ways to carry out their banking requirements.
