A PRIMARY school has plans for a new classroom due to the lack of space for the high demand of pupil entry to the school.

Woodham Walter Primary School has revealed plans for a new demountable classroom as it currently has five classes of pupils being taught in four classroom spaces.

The school has an intake of 17 pupils each year, which a statement included with the plans says is a “difficult” number to manage under the existing space available.

The statement added: “The school is at number every year and had to exceed its admission number in the current existing early years foundation stageclass due to an appeal made by a late admission of a pupil who already has a sibling at the school.

“Pupil admissions indicate that this trend is set to continue with parents indicating they want their child to attend either as first or second choice far outnumbering the published admission number of 17.”

It also says the “huge numbers” of additional housing being built are placing the school under pressure.

The building, made and fixed together in five sections, will contain a classroom, toilets and small kitchenette, along with new paths, ramp and steps.

Maldon District Council will rule on the plans.
