A MOTORIST has been handed a large fine and banned from the roads after driving under the influence of alcohol.
David Mackness, of Fambridge Road, Maldon, was caught driving in South Woodham Ferrers, over the legal alcohol limit.
He registered 49 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35.
Mackness was charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit, and admitted the charge when appearing in Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on May 10.
He was subsequently handed a large £780 fine and was also ordered to pay victim surcharge fees of £78 and £105 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Mackness was also given a driving ban and is now unable to obtain a licence for one year.
