A HIGH Street shop is offering summer clothes and shoes to those who need it the most.
The Salvation Army shop in Maldon is offering packages to those who may have come to the UK with just winter clothes to support them through the summer.
The packages include about four or five outfits made up of summer clothing, shoes and cosmetics.
The items in the packages came from donations to the shop and local hubs.
Since launching the packages this month, the shop has had ten families come to them.
Shop manager Kevin Dawson-Jennings said: “We had a phone call on behalf of a mother and son and were able to provide outfits the next day."
The shop has also taken on its first Ukrainian volunteer and hopes to take on more.
Leila, 25, has been volunteering for a month at the shop in town.
Kevin said: “She has been doing an amazing job and her English is improving all the time. We’re thrilled to have her.”
A Facebook launch for the package initiative was viewed by 3,000 people and Kevin said he has been delighted with the local reaction.
He said: “One woman who is a host came to collect clothing and cried because she couldn’t believe the compassion.”
Louise, a volunteer at the shop, is assigning families to refugees across the county independently from the Salvation Army, and Kevin said: “Her dedication spurred me on.

“I hope people will realise that we are all in this for each other and it’s important to show our support day to day.”
Kevin hopes that offering volunteer opportunities will provide Ukrainian people with “hope and purpose”.
He said: “It could give them something to look forward to. We will take as many people as required.
“There will be a job for everyone, even if it is welcoming customers at the door.”
