RESIDENTS express their views on the new shop set to open in the town.
The building, which used the be the site of M and Co in the High Street is now set to be a Quality Discount shop.
QD is a chain of discount retail outlets, with 29 shops in the East of England, which aims to have good value throughout its shops.
The retailer sells discounted home, gardening, pet, furniture and food items.
A total of 16 new jobs will be created by the shop opening as they are recruiting full and part-time sales assistants, supervisors and managers from the Maldon area.
The shop is set to open at the end of August.
Members of the public have expressed their opinion about the new shop.
The shop was once a much loved Woolworths and some residents have expressed the need for a discount shop in the town.
On Facebook, Stephanie Ann said: “It is usually reasonably priced. I am sure it will benefit many.”
Anne Cooze said: “It is a great alternative so nice to get something different, other than hairdressers or charity shops.”
Bert Patient said: “A bit like Woolworths coming back to town in the original shop.”
Others worried that the shop won’t have a good impact on the town.
Richard Hawkes said: “Oh dear, Maldon becomes a little more like Basildon again.”
One person said that “all the overbuilding has killed Maldon” but this shop will be useful in the town.

QD is a high street discount retailer which also has Essex outlets in Clacton, Halstead, Saffron Walden and Basildon.
The group also run the Cherry Lane Garden Centres, with one based in Braintree.
