A MISSING cat has finally been reunited with its relieved owner after vanishing into thin air almost two years ago.
Adventurous Jerry went out on the evening of October 1, 2020.
By 5pm the next day, his owner Jessica Dawkins realised that she hadn’t seen him for 24 hours.
A frantic Jessica did everything imaginable to get him back - posting on local and national social media sites, printing more than 4,000 leaflets and hiring a leaflet distributor.
She even contacted a medium in a desperate bid for answers.
Jessica said: “Over the coming days, weeks and months I was out all the time I could, walking the streets, calling him at all different times of the day and night around Tiptree.
“Jerry became famous around Tiptree as lots of people were helping to look and giving me tip-offs and rooting for him to come home.
“The community spirit to get this cat home was amazing and I am so grateful.
“The feeling of not knowing was the worst thing possible.
“The months went by and I was always on autopilot, keeping an eye out just in case I saw him. I never gave up hope, even though sometimes I thought I would never see his beautiful face again.”
On Monday, July 25 at 11am Jessica got a call from Tiptree Veterinary Centre.
She said: “The lady asked if I was sitting down for the news I was about to receive.
“She said you’ve got a friend here for you and I said 'Is it Jerry?'
“The phone call consisted of tears and joy. I couldn’t believe I had just heard the words that Jerry had been found.”
Jerry's identified was confirmed by his microchip.
He had most recently been living at Ampwood Solutions in Tiptree, just half a mile away from his home.
Leah Maskell, the wife of a bench joiner there, took Jerry to the vets as he had been there for the past three months.
Ampwood staff had named the cat Allan.
He would sit on their shed and was fed on pilchards, sardines and tuna.
Jessica was shocked to find out they had called him Allan because that was the name of her dad, who had died just before Jerry went missing.
"It's like Dad brought him home to me," she said.
