A WOMAN has braved the shave to raise money for breast cancer.
Lorraine Avery, 57, from Mayland, made the decision just two weeks ago to get her hair shaved off for charity.
After plunging headfirst into the idea with no hesitation, she was worried about what she was going to look like.
Lorraine’s mother-in-law died 20 years ago from breast cancer which spurred her on to get involved in raising money.
She runs the Simply Social group, based in Burnham-On-Crouch, with seven other women and has raised money with the help of friends and family.
Now, she has raised £1,165 for breast cancer research and care charity Breast Cancer Now.
She had her head shaved at her friend Linda Sibley's garden party, which also raised £450 with a raffle.
Lorraine said: “My husband was a bit apprehensive to start with because his mum lost her hair due to her treatment. In actual fact it’s coming up to 20 years.
“I honestly thought I’d only get £200 max but its snowballed from friends and family.
“Everybody thinks I’m stupid - brave but stupid.
“I’m really proud that I’ve raised this amount of money and it was obviously worth doing it, but never again.”
