BUILDING will begin this year following the approval of the retirement housing development.
Maldon District Council have approved the plans for 25 homes to be built in Woodrolfe Road in Tollesbury.
Building for Tollesbury Salt Meadows is expected to begin this year for the 21 bungalows, four apartments and a communal social building.
There will be 11 one-bedroom units, eight two-bedroom homes and six three-bedroom units.
Overall, there were 125 comments in support of the plans.
Many of the comments said that there are not enough retirement living areas in the district and that it was a great idea.

The development aims to provide affordable homes to retired people in the area.
Many supporters said this was needed because of “unaffordable private renting costs”.
There were 22 objections to the plans, with some having concerns about the risk of flooding.
However, the developers claim the site is in an area which is a low flood risk.
Developers hope new home-owners can begin moving in as early as next year.
