THE lead up to a carnival is well underway with multiple events planned before the main day.
Burnham Carnival is coming up and the big day promises lots of entertainment and fun for all.
Before the main event, there are lots of competitions for residents to enjoy; • On Thursday, September 15 a dominos competition is being held at The Welcome Sailor starting at 8pm, entry costs £2.50.
- On Saturday, September 17 there is a cockney knees up event at the Victoria Inn starting at 7.30pm, fresh seafood will be available and entries cost £2.
• A baby show on Wednesday, September 21 at Burnham Village Hall from 2pm for the babies living in the Dengie, entries cost £2.50.
• Bingo night at Burnham Village Hall, doors open at 7pm on Thursday, September 22 and entry costs £2.50.
• On Friday a pool competition and a presentation is on at The Welcome Sailor starting at 8pm, entry costs £2.50.
The Burnham Carnival Committee Chairman, Terry Martin said: “This year’s Carnival and procession has been a long time getting sorted and lots of hard work to organise, with everything that has been going on and even now with the loss of our Queen and a new King.
“But still the committee carry on and try our best to put something on for the people of the Dengie.
“On Saturday a small team will start to get the High Street ready for the day’s events which includes tug of war, 999 races, local dance troupes, drummers and singers.
“There will also be loads of stalls all selling many different things as well as food outlets and a few fair rides for the youngsters. “I would like to thank all the businesses that support us because without them this would not happen.

“I would also like to thank the Maldon District Council, Burnham Town Council, Essex Fire Service, Essex Police, Ambulance service and the RNLI who give up their time for the 999 races.
“I would like to welcome you all to this years Carnival and day of Celebrations there will be a small break at Midday for a minute’s silence and respect for our departed Queen and our new King.”
The carnival is on Saturday, September 24 from 10am in the High Street, Burnham.
