TEARS were shed at a council meeting following the death of the Queen.
Maldon District Council had a council meeting scheduled on Thursday, September 8, but it ended early due to news of the Queen's death.
At the short council meeting, members held a two-minute silence in the council offices and spoke of their memories of Her Majesty and reflected on her visit to Maldon in 2010.
Council chairman Bob Boyce said: “My recollection of the Queen is I have met her and I have been introduced to her.
“I have had the pleasure of being present and having lunch in her presence when she visited Maldon for the second time in her reign.

“I would like to share those memories with you - there may be some of you who were in Maldon for her visit.
“It was a moving experience then and a terribly moving experience now.”
Council leader Penny Channer said: “I was one of the members present when Her Majesty visited Maldon and it was a very humbling experience.
“I think what impressed me the most was we were given the instructions to say you don’t approach Her Majesty, you don’t go up to her, you don’t speak to her, and Her Majesty took the time to speak to every one of us and ask questions.”
