In April, the members of Danbury Meeting Point enjoyed a talk by Sue Sincock on the Gardens of the City of London. With many slides of gardens she took us on a very interesting and informative guided tour around the City.

This was Sue's fourth visit to us to talk about the City of London and she told us that we have now heard all of her talks.

Sue was thanked by our chairman David Whiteing, who announced that next month we shall have a return visit from Keith Lovell who will talk about Pot Pouri of Essex Heritage.

We have enjoyed a number of talks from Keith on a number of Essex subjects, and we invite all retired gentlemen to join with us on Wednesday May 14 at 2pm in the URC hall.

You can get more information about Meeting Point, Danbury's Retired Gentlemen's Club, from David Whiteing on 225379, or by e-mailing DJWhiteing@aol.com Monthly newsletters are sent out by paper and by e-mail, so please ask if you wish to be included.

UNITED REFORMED CHURCH

Our two sister churches at Howe Green and Great Baddow joined us in Danbury last Sunday for a service led by our shared minister, the Rev Jon Sermon.

Jon told us that we are getting used to him varying our services and this morning he will use 11 Bible readings to take us on a journey on the theme of authentic worship. He said we are changing church to make it more relevant and acceptable to everyone.

Our opening hymn was All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing. Jon put up a slide of the children's TV programme The Magic School Bus and said that this morning it would be called the Magic Bible Bus.

Jon was being helped by Amanda Dolan-Harrison, who had recently been seconded as assistant to Great Baddow URC, and it was Amanda's task to read all eleven bible readings, as displayed on the screen, whilst Jon gave us an explanation.

The first reading being that the whole of creation gives glory to God (Psalm 19), God created male and female equally (Genesis) and we have the right to become his children (John).

Jon continued on the theme of song starting with the song of Miriam (Exodus), the singing by the rivers of Babylon (Psalm 137), Paul and Silas singing hymns to God (Acts) and finally we should be encouraged to sing our own song (Revelation).

Amanda then led us in prayers.

Following the service, we invited our visitors into the hall for our usual session of fellowship with refreshments prepared by Margaret Whitehead and Glyn Davies. Next Sunday we have an exchange of pulpits within the Chelmsford District and our service at 9.45am will be led for us by Trevor Andrews.
