Skate Park: The official opening of the Skate Park which is situated behind Maylandsea School was held on 12 April and was well attended by both adults and children.

Rodney Clarke gave a demonstration of his skateboarding skills and gave advice to the young skateboarders from the community.

Scout Hut: Since the amalgamation of Maylandsea Scouts with Southminster Scouts the scout hut on the Lawling Playing Field at Lawling Park has not been used to its full potential.

Discussions have taken place over the last year as to the future of this building. Mayland Parish Council believes this building is an asset for the community and cannot be left to fall into disrepair. Therefore from the 1st May 2008 the scout hut will revert to the ownership of the community and be managed by Mayland Parish Council. The Scouts have refurbished the inside of the building to a high standard with new toilets and kitchen facilities.

To hire the building for your event contact Mrs Rackham on 773557 Flytipping: Over the last couple of weeks it has been reported to the council that someone has been leaving hedge/rose clippings on the roundabout at Imperial Avenue and Marine Drive. This is fly tipping and can result in legal action by Maldon District Council who has to remove the rubbish. A garden refuse collection service is run each week in Mayland by Maldon District Council at the bottom of Nipsells Chase.

Annual Parish Assembly: As previously reported the Annual Parish Assembly will be held in the Henry Samuel Hall, Steeple Road on Tuesday 29 April at 7.30pm.

PRE SCHOOL

Little Nipperz new term has started well. A visit from a police Officer has been arranged and she is bringing along her police car for the children to sit in and press the buttons. Also visiting will be firemen from South Woodham Ferrers (the second week of May).

We are still in the precedes of arrange for all the staff to swim the length of the River Blackwater at the local swimming pool.

DISTRICT RNLI AGM

The Maldon and District fundraising Branch of the RNLI held its AGM recently in the Moot Hall. The meeting was chaired by the president of the committee, councillor Julia Peel and Jayne Parsons, area fundraising manager for the Eastern Region was also in attendance.

Jayne informed the meeting that overall in 2007 the Eastern region raised in excess of £1 million through its fundraising branches and guilds and our treasurer, Peter Woods, was pleased to announce that the Maldon Branch had contributed over £35,000 to this total.

Our chairman, Maurice Mumford, thanked the committee for their hard work throughout the year and Jayne Parsons endorsed this with the fact that our efforts had helped to make it possible for RNLI lifeboats to launch 8,141 times in 2007 and save 7,834 people, whilst the relatively new RNLI lifeguards around our coasts rescued 1,350 people.

Jayne also reminded us that during the terrible summer floods last year Lifeboat crews were in action again and rescued another 200 people.

The meeting was very positive and a number of new members were elected onto the committee. It was pleasing to see the support from district council chairman Brian Mead, who attended the meeting, and also Rodney Bass, who was elected a vice-president of the Maldon RNLI Branch in recognition of his ongoing commitment to fundraising for the branch.
