MALDON’S town centre is set for a new nail parlour and beauty salon after proposals were given the green light.
Plans to turn the former Aquatic, Pet And Reptile Centre in High Street into the hairdressers and beauty salon have been approved by Maldon District Council.
The proposals do not include any alterations to the outside of the shop.
The bid said: “Given the small size of the unit, being currently vacant and having previous permission under the retail category, the proposal is considered to be appropriate to the commercial locality and there would be no material harm to the vitality of this retail location, which ensures that the proposal harmonises with the existing street scene.”
The proposed opening hours are 9am to 6pm on weekdays and 9am to 5.30pm on Saturdays.
A Maldon District Council planning report said: “Although the proposal would result in a ‘mixed use’ non-retail unit, the High Street contains a relatively high percentage of retail units and it is not considered the proposed development would have a particular negative impact on the viability of the high street.
“The proposed use would still encourage customers to visit during daytime hours.”
Maldon Town Council also supported the plans.
