A FESTIVE four-piece are hoping to spread some seasonal cheer after recording a Christmas classic as their next single.

The Dengie-based Remedy Band have been busy putting together a follow-up to their last single Marathon Song.

It was released earlier this year as a tribute to all those who take part in running The London Marathon at the start of October.

The band were thrilled to be invited to London as special guests on board the Cutty Sark at Greenwich, giving them a spectacular, front row view of the runners as they went by.

They were even interviewed by BBC Radio London presenter Robert Elms and Trisha Goddard for Talk TV.

Now the band - made up of Angela Gardner, Jon Greaves, Beth Pratt and Julian May - have recorded a cover of Little Drummer Boy, which was made famous by Bing Crosby and David Bowie when it aired on a 1977 TV Christmas special just weeks after the US crooner's death.

It was only released as a single five years later, peaking at number three in the UK to become Crosby's final big hit.

The Remedy Band shot the video for their version at West Hyde Christmas Trees in Tillingham.

Julian said: "Little Drummer Boy is our happy and peaceful Christmas message to everyone the world over."

The Remedy Band will also be performing the track when they accompany this year's Carols on the Green event at Tillingham Square, on Monday, December 19, at 6pm.

The event, which is organised by St Nicholas' Church, will include everyone's favourite carols to herald the Christmas season.

Teas, coffee and mulled wine will be served during the hour-long get-together.
