AN ACCIDENT involving three vehicles on a major road is causing heavy traffic in the area.
The southbound carriageway on the A12 from junction 19, Boreham and junction 18, Sandon is blocked and traffic is queuing for more than four miles following a collision.
Traffic is building in the surrounding area as drivers divert the scene.
There are delays of about 30 minutes.
Emergency services are at the scene.
A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “One lane blocked by an accident involving three vehicles.
“Queues southbound on Chelmer Road and Springfield Road - also queuing on Baddow bypass and Parkway to the Army and Navy roundabout.
“Drivers diverting through Chelmsford as a result of an accident blocking the A12 just after J19.”
Emergency services have been contacted for comment.
