AN initiative devoted to supporting residents who are struggling to afford food is finally set to open a permanent residence.

Residents in need will be able to get regular support from the Tiptree Community Fridge.

The fridge will be based in Unit 4, 20 Station Road, Tiptree from January.

An opening event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 14.

The fridge project began in July when Tiptree resident Michelle Olley wanted to help struggling residents and reduce the amount of wasted food after feeling that she often struggled to clear her fridge out.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

With the support from the Tiptree Volunteers, the Tiptree Community Fridge was up and running.

A total of £1,555.63 was raised at the Tiptree Christmas fair in November from support from residents.

The organisers are looking for sponsorships from businesses and further funding to support the running costs that will come with opening the premises.

Ms Olley said: “We have the greatest pleasure in announcing that from January we will be moving into Unit 4 20 Station Road Tiptree.

“We are supported by Ben Coombes who has welcomed us to the new Argent House.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

“There is still a great deal for us to do and we are busy arranging the equipment and food.

“Moreover we are looking at becoming a warm bank for the village available to you on a more regular basis.

“In the next few days we will post more information and unabashedly a wish list of items we still need to find.

“With more space and a small kitchen we are able to offer some warm drinks so we have a growing list of items we now need to be able to offer a comfortable warm space to our community.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

“I have also sent out emails to the local businesses for 2023 sponsorship.

“We would love to hear from anyone who may want to support our community fridge.

“We have applied now to become a CIO charity.

“We are a 100% not for profit so any donations or sponsorship go entirely on running costs for the fridge.
