A HORSE was rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped in its stable overnight.
Crews from Maldon and Chelmsford fire stations were called to Main Road in Mundon at 6.33am today after a horse got its leg trapped during the night.
Paddy the horse had got his leg stuck between metal bars and a dividing stable.
The 13-year-old horse was freed with the help of Maldon and Chelmsford’s specialist Animal Rescue Unit, the owners and a vet.
He was unharmed and crews made sure he was okay before leaving the scene at about 8am.
The team have been praised for their professionalism during the incident.
Martin Cable, watch manager at Maldon fire station, said: "I'd like to thank the crews who were here this morning for the way they handled this incident with such care and professionalism.
"Incidents involving animals can sometimes be really challenging, but with the support of the vet and owners, we were glad to help get Paddy back on his feet."
