A decision on approving a new headquarters for renowned brand Maldon Salt is due to be made by Essex councillors next week.
The Maldon Salt Crystal Company, along with science and technology firms Tecniq and CML Microsystems, are set to move to a new location in Oval Park, Langford.
Several planning applications will be debated and voted on by Maldon District Council at a meeting next week (February 16).
According to a council report, the proposals will create 500 jobs across the developments.
The report says: “It has been established in the planning balance that the economic and social benefits that the development would bring about would substantially outweigh the harm.”
Oval Park is an existing employment site in Hatfield Road, and is in the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation conservation area. It has several plots of land around a central oval near the entrance to the site, where the new developments will be built if their applications are approved.
Maldon Salt’s new headquarters will include a warehouse for salt processing, packing, collection and delivery, as well as a canteen for staff and areas for hospitality and administration.
According to the report, it would create 75 new jobs.
The other applications include proposals for a new car park and sustainable drainage system for the existing building in Oval Park.
A 7,600 square metre business park, along with a new estate road, car parking and service areas, is being proposed by CML Microsystems, which manufactures semiconductors.
Two hundred jobs would be created, according to the report.
Tecniq, a design and technology firm for car manufacturers, is also set to build their headquarters in the site, employing 225 people.
The building would include offices, research and development facilities, a workshop, welfare facilities and a classic car and restoration showroom.
All the applications are for full approval except CML’s business park, which is seeking outline planning permission.
The council will meet on February 16 to debate and vote on the four applications.
