A COMMUNITY fridge has expressed its gratitude to a running club after it donated 42kg of food.
Runners from the Witham Running Club ran to the Tiptree Community Fridge in Station Road, Tiptree with lots of food to donate.
Witham Running Club membership secretary James Attenborough was inspired by the Runr community food bank run movement.
He suggested it to the club committee and social secretary Rachel O’Leary began organising the race.
Runners started at The Ship Inn in Tiptree and ran to the fridge to drop off their donations before continuing on a 4.8 mile route around the village.
A spokesman for Witham Running Club said: “We chose to support the community fridges because they are there for the whole community and more accessible than actual food banks which require eligibility checks.
“We did a collection for Witham Community Hub in December and so Tiptree was the next closest one for the club.”
The fridge opened its premises in Unit 4, 20 Station Road in January this year to reduce food waste and support residents struggling with the cost of living.
A spokesman for Tiptree Community Fridge said: “A huge thank you to Witham Running Club for running to us and dropping of an incredible 42kg of food. You are amazing.”
