A POPULAR pizza takeaway has officially opened following some controversy about its location.
Papa Johns has now opened its doors to customers in 68 High Street, Maldon.
Plans for the hot food takeaway in the former Lloyds bank building were given the green light in December last year.
The plans were the second application submitted by the chain after the previous application was thrown out due to concerns it would have a “detrimental impact on highway safety or the free flow of traffic”.
A conservation officer as well as county highways and environmental health bosses had no objections to the new plans.
There was one objection from a member of the public concerned about the impact it could cause on traffic.
He said: “The location is not suitable and will very likely cause traffic issues.
“Customers and delivery drivers will not hesitate to pull up at the front of the building to collect orders.
“They will not park at the rear, as this is an inconvenience.”
Chartered surveyors, Eddisons assessed the potential risks and said: “Off-street parking is provided at Butt Lane Car Park, Friary Fields Car Park and Iceland Car Park.

“It is proposed that car parking for the unit will be provided for within the car park to the rear of the unit, this provides parking for up to four vehicles.
"It is proposed that the parking will be used by staff, customers and delivery drivers.”
The takeaway is open from 11am to 11pm every day and is currently delivering to a one-mile radius.
