A HISTORIC event is about to take place and events are being held all over the district to celebrate.
The official coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort will take place on Saturday, May 6.
The royals will be crowned at Westminster Abbey, in London, at a ceremony conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The coronation will be broadcast on national television and events have been organised to celebrate the occasion.
The following are some of the events set to take place in the district in celebration of the coronation.
Purleigh Community Shop fundraising event
Where: Purleigh Cricket Club, Howe Green Road, Purleigh
When: Sunday, May 7 from 12pm to 4pm
The Purleigh Community Shop is hosting a coronation lunch event with drinks and a barbeque to celebrate the coronation and raise money for the shop.
The shop is run by volunteers and often raises money to keep the shop open and to allow it to continue hosting small events for Purleigh residents.
Coronation Picnic in the Park
Where: King George V Memorial Playing Field, Station Road, Southminster.
When: Sunday, May 7 from 2pm to 6pm
Southminster Parish Council has organised a coronation picnic in the park with entertainment including two live bands The Amstells and Raffles and bouncy castles.
Maldon Coronation Mega Inflatables Fun Day
Where: Promenade Park, Park Drive, Maldon
When: Monday, May 8, from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm
There will be a huge inflatable arena in Promenade Park in celebration of the coronation, with bouncy castles, slides, fun runs and more.
There will also be a separate toddler zone.
Woodham Walter Village Coronation Picnic
Where: Bell Meadow, Church Hill, Woodham Walter
When: Sunday, May 7 from 12.30pm to 4pm
Residents are being invited bring their own picnics to Bell Meadow to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.
It is set to be a fun and friendly village event.
