TWO High Street banks will be closing due to the fall in customer visit numbers.

Barclays Bank will be closing in 18 Queen Elizabeth II Square, South Woodham Ferrers and 18 High Street, Burnham.

The Burnham branch is set to close on August 22 and the South Woodham Ferrers branch will be closing on August 11.

The South Woodham branch has 25 customers who use the branch regularly as the only way to do their banking and Burnhams branch is relied on by 20 people.

The nearest branch which offers cashier service and self-service is in 63-65 High Street, Rayleigh or 40-41 High Street, Chelmsford.

A Barclays spokesman said: “As visits to branches continue to fall, we need to adapt to provide the best service for all our customers.

“Where there is no longer enough demand to support a branch, we maintain an in-person presence though our Barclays Local network in over 200 locations, based in libraries, town halls, mobile vans and our new banking pods.

“We also support access to cash with our cashback without purchase service, 24-hour deposit-taking ATMs and by working alongside the Post Office and Cash Access UK.”
