A HUGE outdoor obstacle course is coming to Maldon to raise money for charity.
A 2.5km outdoor obstacle course ‘Splash Out’ is coming to Maldon’s Promenade Park to raise money for Farleigh Hospice.
The hospice supports people affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement in Maldon and mid-Essex for free.
Participants will take on two laps, with a total of ten water-based obstacles including steppingstones, a giant dodge ball and an eight-metre pit full of floating balls.
Among those set to take part are 14 Scouts from the first Maldon Merlin Scouts group.
They will be taking part with leader Kate Hoddy and assistant leader Simon Gray.
The group will be raising money for the hospice to achieve their fundraising badges.
Kate said: “Farleigh Hospice is very close to my heart. Fourteen years ago they looked after my mum in her last days and everyone was amazing.
"It made such a difference to my family at such an incredibly hard time.
“Scouts is now a big part of my life and the Scouts are brilliant, always wanting new challenges and experiences.
“So, what a fantastic idea to bring this all together at Splash Out and have the Scouts raise funds for Farleigh whilst having such a brilliant experience and being able to gain their fundraising badge."
Hospice fundraising manager Debbie de Boltz said: “Farleigh is facing a growing demand for our services.
“We want to be there to help everyone with a life-limiting illness to live as actively as possible from their diagnosis to the end of their life and to also support their family and carers.
“We are so excited to bring our new fundraising event, Splash Out, to Maldon’s Promenade Park and we’re thankful to our sponsors, Chandler Materials, the 1st Maldon Merlin Scouts group and everyone else who signs up and raises money for us.
“It is because you care that Farleigh can continue to be here, when we are needed.”

Entry costs £23 for adults and £12 for children aged four to 15.
The event is on Sunday, July 9 from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
