A FLYPAST by an iconic plane and historic vehicles will be at a public park at an upcoming event.
The Essex Historical Military Vehicle Association is hosting an Armed Forces Day this Sunday in conjunction with Maldon District Council.
There will be a flypast from a Lancaster bomber operated by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight just before 3pm on the day.
It is one of just two surviving airworthy examples and the only one in the UK.
A spokesman for the Essex Historical Military Vehicle Association said: “This event also features displays from members of the Essex HMVA showing their beautifully restored vehicles, as well as some members military equipment collections.
“Maldon itself has a long association with military history dating as far back as the Battle of Maldon in 991AD, which took place on the shores of the River Blackwater.
“During the Second World War soldiers were stationed in the area in order to protect this part of the coast from invasion.
“Some of the local boats were also used as part of Operation Dynamo, which evacuated the British Expeditionary Force from the beaches of Dunkirk.
“Local tugs were used to assist in setting up the Mulberry harbours for the D-Day landings in Normandy.”
The event is on Sunday, June 25, from 10am to 4pm.
