A SCHOOL is bidding to raise £15,000 to revamp its swimming pool so pupils can continue to use it in years to come.

The pool at Wentworth Primary School, in Viking Road, Maldon, has been serving generations of children and residents for more than 25 years.

However immediate action is needed to upgrade the pool's filtration system.

As a result the school is seeking support from the community to pay for the works which are expected to cost £15,000.

A spokesman from Wentworth Primary School said: "We are very lucky to have a swimming pool on site but unfortunately due to the pool being over 25 years old, it’s time to replace the filtration system.

"This is a huge expense to the school. Every penny will really help."

The school needs £15,000 to upgrade the necessities and recreate the once cherished space for children.

Currently, the school has raised more than £850 from 30 supporters on their JustGiving page.

One of the student's parents said: "A school with a swimming pool seems to be a rare find these days.

"The fact this provision is on-site means less disruption to a school day for attending swim lessons.

"We never wanted our children to fear water but equally there is a balance where they need to acknowledge the risks and the lessons we feel achieve this."
