A PARTNERSHIP to help reduce homelessness in Maldon has been launched.

The Salvation Army Housing Association (Saha) has joined forces with Maldon District Council to use Cecil Mary House as supportive accommodation for people moving out of homelessness.

The building, in Victoria Road, was Maldon Housing Association's first property and will now be used to support residents.

It was previously used as sheltered accommodation for people aged over 55.

The first residents have already moved in and are said to have begun settling into their new homes.

The property has been completely refurbished and furnished, and features fully equipped rooms with three full wet rooms on the ground floor for people with mobility problems.

New residents receive welcome packs with essentials to help them feel at home.

They are given ongoing support from Saha which focuses on setting goals, building relationships, reconnecting with loved ones, and developing skills for employment.

Residents can live at Cecil Mary House for up to two years as they prepare to move into permanent housing and independent living.

Saha chief exec Lynne Shea said: “We are delighted to open the doors of Cecil Mary House and give residents in Maldon the services and housing stability they need to move forward after being without a home.”

Maldon District Council leader Richard Siddall added: “This scheme shows great partnership working between Salvation Army Housing Association and Maldon District Council.

“The new homes will provide both affordable accommodation and support to meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable residents.”
