CONCERNS from residents about proposals for a 275-home development in Maldon will be discussed at a meeting.

Residents have been invited to the town hall in Market Hill to speak about their concerns about the proposed ‘Maldon Woods’ development at Maldon Hall Farm on Wednesday, November 1.

Residents will be preparing to respond to a future planning application for the development.

Plans for a 340-home development at the same site were refused in 2015 by the council after residents came together to object to the proposals.

Their main concerns are a claimed lack of sufficient infrastructure, encroaching on the peace of the cemetery, destroying the tranquillity of the area, unsuitability of the site, building on farmland which is needed for food security and environmental impact.

The Facebook group ‘Say no to building on Maldon Hall Farm’ has more than 1,400 members against the plans.

A spokesman for the group said: “Maldon has been subjected to significant development in recent years which has, not only put significant strain on local infrastructure but is also threatening our beautiful green spaces.

“This meeting is an opportunity to come together as a district to share our worries and gain information as to how to act in response to planning permission when the time comes.”
