A HISTORY society will be delving into the background of a commonly use heathland which once connected Maldon to Colchester.
The Maldon Society’s last talk of the year will be hosted by Joan Pinch, who will tell all on the history and current conservation of Tiptree Heath.
A long time ago, people would have been able to walk all the way from Maldon to Colchester in the heath.
Host Joan Pinch will also be discussing the recently submitted plans for a new pond to create habitats for wildlife on the site.
A spokesman for the Maldon Society said: “The common was first recorded in 1401, when it would have been possible to walk on heathland all the way from Maldon to Colchester.
“The Heath is a rare protected Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because there are three species of heather – Ling, Cross-leaved and Bell which have been allowed to flourish and its diversity of habitats.”
The talk will be held on Thursday, November 2 at the Cygnet Room behind the Swan Hotel in High Street, Maldon.
Doors will open at 6.30pm and the meeting is set to start at 7pm.
