A COLLECTION took place at the final home match before Christmas to support families in the district.

Maldon and Tiptree FC fans made donations to a Christmas food bank collection before the match against Bury Town on Saturday.

The Jammers Fans Association organised the collection for the third year in a row, in time for the final home game before Christmas.

Supporters were encouraged to bring items such as long-life milk, pasta sauce, tinned fruit and vegetables, tuna, tinned food, toiletries and more to donate to people in need.

The fans association teamed up with Madison Heights for its Christmas food bank collection which donates to the Maldon Food Pantry, based in Wantz Road.

The food pantry, part of Maldon Churches Together, has donated more than 30,000 meals to people in the Maldon District since its launch.

Chairman of the Jammers Fans Association Tony Williams said: “As the holiday season approaches, the Jammers Fans Association focuses on charitable endeavours.

“The food bank collection aims to ensure that families in Maldon facing economic challenges can enjoy a hearty and fulfilling holiday meal.

“Non-perishable food items, essential pantry staples, and other necessities are being collected that will be distributed through the Maldon Food Pantry.”
